Frequently Asked Questions

This is a general FAQ section for the SVNsite service.

If any questions you have are not answered in the FAQ, do not hesitate to contact us via our Contact page with your questions.

What is SVNsite and what is included?

SVNsite is a subscription service that hosts your Subversion code repository for you.
We also provide this website to go with your repository, from where you can add and remove the users that are allowed to access your repository.
We also provide you with a JTrac issue tracker, so you can keep track of bugs and roadmaps for your project.

What protocols do you support and what ways can I access my repository in?

Access is through the http or https protocols <

What is your backup strategy and how safe is my code?

We do nightly backups of all hard drives, which means any backup will not be older than 24 hours.
Furthermore, our infrastructure is entirely hosted on Amazon Web Services which means we have the power and resilience of Amazons infrastructure behind us, with it's highly resilient "S3" and "EBS" storage services providing peace of mind for your code.

Who can access and see my code?

No one but you, and the users that your account administrator (whoever signed up for the SVNsite subscription) have added to your subscription. No one else will be able to read, write or access your code.

How fast is the service?

Our servers are hosted by Amazon, and have a per server bandwidth of 250MB/s. Furthermore, Subversion is an incremental protocol, which means in most cases the actual upload/download size in normal use is smaller than the complete file, resulting in a snappy service under normal use.
HOWEVER, there are many factors playing in perceived network speed, not least distance and route to the server, and any bottlenecks in between that are out of our control.
Finally, if you have very large binary files (as opposed to source code/text files) that you update frequently, the service might seem slower, as Subversion is unable to deal with binary files in an incremental fashion, and thus has to upload/download the complete file.

Can I have more than one account/subscription?

Yes, but you will have to create that subscription with a different PayPal account/e-mail address, as we identify each account by the e-mail address associated with the PayPal account from which payment is taken. In other words, if you want more than one subscription, you will need to use more than one e-mail address and more than one PayPal account.

How much does the service cost?

Please refer to our Pricing and subscribing page for more information.

How do I activate my account and how quickly can it happen?

Once we receive confirmation of your first payment from PayPal, we will immediately activate your account and send an activation e-mail out to you. Once you receive the e-mail, you simply click a link in the e-mail and follow the simple instructions. Baring any unexpected or extreme circumstances, you should be able to start using your SVNsite account within minutes of having gone through the PayPal checkout process.

Can i upgrade/downgrade my account?

You can upgrade or downgrade your account at any time, if you upgrade we will manually pay back the remaining amount of your pre-paid lower level subscription into your PayPal account (we do not refund for cancellations or downgrades). To upgrade or downgrade, you simply cancel your current subscription, then go to our Subscribe page and sign up for a new subscription at the level you want. We will NOT remove your current Subversion repository or users when you cancel, instead our support team will manually upgrade/downgrade your account quotas once we have confirmation of your new subscription. For this reason it may take up to one business day before your new account quotas are in effect, however we strive to do it as quickly as we can.

How do I cancel my subscription?

If you signed up after the 10th of August 2009, you do not need to explicitly cancel your subscription, you can simply just not pay for the next year of service (for which we will send out an e-mail reminder close to the due date), and the service will be cancelled automatically. If you have an older account, simply sign in, go to "Manage Account" and click the unsubscribe button. After this, you will have to sign in to your PayPal account and chose the SVNsite subscription as the one you want to cancel.

Can I change my e-mail address for my account?

Yes, but ONLY if you have made the same change on your PayPal account. We identify your payments from PayPal via your e-mail address, it is therefore essential that these match at all times. If you do change your PayPal account e-mail, please sign-in to SVNsite and contact support via the support form.

Privacy - what details do you store and how do you use them?

The only personal details we store is your e-mail address. As we use PayPal for managing subscriptions and payments, we do not need to store any other personal details such as your name, address or other personally identifiable information.
Your e-mail address will remain confidential and we will only ever use it to notify you of things that may affect your use of SVNsite, such as account activation, retrieval of user credentials requested by you, new features ready for your use, scheduled downtime due to maintenance and similar, limited correspondence.
